How to Prevent Mold, Mildew, and Fungus from Growing in Your RV
Posted on Jan 25, 2021
One of the many perks of using Expedition Motorhomes – the leader in California motor home rentals – for your next LA motor homes road trip is leaving all of the behind the scenes maintenance to the professionals. However, if history is any indication, many of our Los Angeles motor home rental clients have such a good time on their trip that they begin to research the purchase of their own recreational vehicle. If you, too, go from having a blast in your Los Angeles RV rentals and are thinking about investing in your own RV there are many maintenance tips and tricks we can share after years in the industry. One realm of critical importance is learning how to prevent mold, mildew, and fungus from growing in your RV. Most of these issues are caused by dampness and lack of proper air circulation. To prevent your motorhome from experiencing unwelcome mold, mildew, and fungus buildup practice these four easy steps.
A root cause of mold and mildew is allowing condensation to accumulate inside your RV. To prevent this, keep windows and vents open when you can to promote airflow through the vehicle. Bathrooms are a particularly good habitat for these unsightly growths, so be sure to run fans and leave doors open after use.
It is not uncommon for RVs to experience little leaks in their roofs, windows, pipes, or ceilings. The constant movement and exposure to inclement weather can wear down these vulnerable spots. Before heading out on a big road trip, give your RV a thorough once over to identify any potential leaks and fix them as quickly as possible.
Clean up Moisture
This one should be a no brainer. If you notice any moisture – condensation or otherwise – building up on your motorhome’s surfaces wipe it up immediately!
Dehumidifiers and Fans are your Friends
If you are noticing considerable moisture buildup in your motorhome, invest in a dehumidifier and fans to suck up moisture from the air and promote airflow through your RV, respectively. Both can work in tandem to help create a dry and mold/mildew/fungus-free environment.
